You Are An Island

The world feels chaotic right now. Uncertain. Like something big is breaking apart. You are not alone. And it is normal for you you to feel untethered, lost and overwhelmed in times like this.

The truth is, we need life on earth to change the systems we had created were broken: and the thing we know about change is that it never moves in a straight line.

In nature, when a system loses its balance—after a wildfire, a storm, or an environmental collapse—it doesn’t go back to the way things were. Instead, small islands of coherence begin to emerge. Tiny pockets of life that hold steady in the turbulence. And slowly, those pockets expand until they transform the entire system into something new.

This is how nature regenerates. And I believe this is how we do, too.

Right now, we don’t need to have all the answers. We don’t need to fix the whole world. What we can do—what actually makes a difference—is to focus on creating our own small islands of coherence. We need our creativity now more than ever before.

For me, that means turning to creativity, nature, and the things I can touch and feel—painting, making jewelry, walking along the water, holding a smooth stone in my hand. It means carving out space to breathe, to create, and importantly to connect with other humans.

These things may seem small. But they are everything.

We are part of something bigger. Even in uncertainty, we can find steadiness within ourselves. We don’t have to wait for the world to change before we start living with intention, creativity, and love.

So if you’re feeling lost right now, come back to what is real.

I’ve been pouring this feeling into my work lately—Pebblebellies, guided meditations, new podcast episodes, and creative tools to help us navigate uncertain times. If you need something to anchor you, take a look.

Pick up a paintbrush. Listen to the waves. Hold something meaningful in your hands. Connect curiously with an open heart to a new person. Be the island. The rest will follow.

PS - If you are feeling lost or like you need a physical anchor to ground you, I would be honoured for you to have a piece of my jewelry for this like Fern Earrings, Mussel Necklace and especially my Pebblebellies which are physical manifestations of literally billions of years of all the elements unifying over and over again; each one carries this infinite wise thrum of nature to carry with you and soothe your being.
