The Universe is Speaking—Are You Listening?
Have you ever felt like life is out to get you? As though the universe is deliberately throwing obstacles in your way? Not long ago, I found myself caught in this exact cycle of thought. But through reflection and a powerful reframe, I discovered something transformative—something I believe can shift how you navigate life’s inevitable bumps and frustrations.
Let me take you into this moment of discovery and invite you to explore it in your own life.
Life’s Frustrating Moments: A Hidden Message?
Picture this: you're rushing through a busy day, juggling errands, responsibilities, and the endless to-do list. Then, something small but maddening happens—your sweater pocket catches on a door handle, or you spill your coffee just as you’re heading out. These minor mishaps can feel like the last straw, leaving you wondering, Why does life have it out for me?
I had a week full of moments like this recently. From a rear-ended car to a broken fireplace, it felt like everything was going wrong. And before I knew it, I caught myself thinking, The universe is messing with me.
But then something remarkable happened. During a coaching session, I was encouraged to look at these frustrations through a different lens. What emerged wasn’t a universe intent on making my life harder, but one trying to get my attention. This simple but profound reframe—something is trying to get my attention—changed everything.
The Power of Reframing
When we shift our inner dialogue, we open the door to new possibilities. Imagine pausing in moments of frustration—not to suppress the annoyance, but to meet it with curiosity. Instead of asking, Why is this happening to me? try asking, What is trying to get my attention?
This shift turned my despair into curiosity. What I had viewed as life’s hostility became an invitation to slow down and listen. The universe wasn’t punishing me; it was nudging me to notice something, to reflect, to realign.
Journaling became an essential tool in this process. I bought a beautiful watercolor journal and started writing down these reframes, decorating the pages with sketches and color. This practice not only helped me rewrite the stories I was telling myself but also brought me moments of peace and creativity amidst the chaos.
Learning From Nature’s Rhythm
As the holidays approach, I’m reminded of the importance of aligning with life’s natural rhythms. Right now, nature is slowing down, resting, and conserving energy. But for many of us, this season is a whirlwind of activity.
When life feels overwhelming, take a cue from winter’s stillness. Even small moments of pause can be transformative. Whether it’s sitting quietly with a cup of tea, taking a short walk, or reflecting on what life might be trying to tell you, these pauses can reconnect you with yourself.
5 Questions to Help You Listen to What Life Might Be Trying to Tell You
To help you explore this idea more deeply, here are a few prompts. You might want to print them out, keep them in a journal, or post them somewhere visible. Use them as a guide when life feels chaotic or overwhelming:
-

Life’s frustrations often feel like barriers, but what if they’re not obstacles to overcome but invitations to notice, reflect, and grow? When we take the time to listen and reframe, even the smallest hiccups can reveal unexpected beauty and purpose.
As you move through this season, I encourage you to hold these reflections close. Let them guide you through life’s inevitable bumps and turns. The universe isn’t against you—it’s speaking to you.
