There is a place deep in the wild heart of British Columbia’s Central Coast, hidden among the misty fjords and ancient forests, where orcas return year after year to rub their bellies on smooth, timeworn stones. No one fully knows why they do this. Maybe it’s a ritual of connection, a way of communing with the earth itself. Maybe it’s simply joy. Whatever the reason, it is sacred. And witnessing it is pure magic.
This place has been woven into my life for decades. Long before I became a full-time artist, I worked in marine conservation alongside First Nations, researchers, and local communities, learning from the people who have called this coast home for generations. It was during this time that I first encountered the orcas’ ritual. And something in me shifted.
That connection has never left me. It has found its way into my hands, into my heart, into the work I do now.
Finding a Physical Anchor
Lately, making Pebblebellies has been what has tethered me to love. In the quiet moments, sitting with these small, ancient stones in my fingers, I feel into their smooth, steadfast curves, listening for how they want to be set. Each one hums with the memory of tides, of moon cycles, of the deep, unseen forces that shape our world.
These little talismans hold a rare kind of energy—wise, benevolent, powerfully grounding. They are a bridge between the elements, between ocean and earth, between past and present. Wearing mine has become a ritual, a way to stay rooted, to carry a piece of that energy with me wherever I go. I never leave home without it.
I make them so you can experience this medicine too. If you’re longing for something to soothe your nervous system, to remind you of your connection to the earth and water, to keep you anchored when life feels unsteady—this is it. A piece of the ocean’s quiet strength, always with you.
A New Batch Just Released
I’ve just uploaded a new batch of Pebblebellies to my website, and I wanted you to know first—before I bring them to the art market next week, where they usually sell out almost immediately. If one of these stones is calling to you, now is the time to claim it.
A portion of each purchase helps support orca research, ensuring these magnificent beings and their habitats remain protected for generations to come.
